Announcements

NEW BOOK STUDY STARTS THIS WEEK  Beginning Thursday, June 3rd, John Horsley will be leading a book study based on “Renewing the Process of Creation” by Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson. This book draws on process theology, Judaism and science to consider the meaning of Creation, and humanity’s role as steward and partner in Creation. It will be a good follow-up to the current discussion that the Rev. Mike Eggleston is leading on Piglet’s Process – see Mike for more information on that. Please consider taking part. You can be sure of a good and fascinating conversation. Four Thursdays at 10am (June 3 through June 24)  In St. Benedict’s Zoom room.

PEOPLE’S KITCHEN HELP NEEDED – Our next turn hosting lunch for the clients at 40 Prado will be this Saturday, June 5th.  We will need both food donations and people to help serve!  If you can help, please contact Pat Henry at riecie5381@gmail.com or call or text her at 661-340-2291.  Thank you!

BISHOP’S VISITATION – Bishop Lucinda Ashby will make her official visit to St. Benedict’s on Sunday, June 13th.  This will be a opportunity for people to be confirmed (make an adult declaration of faith) or received into The Episcopal Church (from another faith tradition.)  If you are interested in confirmation or reception, please speak with Caro+

THANKSGIVING FOR JOHN’S MUSIC MINISTRY –  John Cribb’s last Sunday as Music Director will be June 20th.   Please plan to stay after the 10:30 service that day so that we can take some time together to thank him, express our love and appreciation, and enjoy each other’s company.

LAUNDRY LOVE ADDS SECOND SESSION – We are sponsoring a second laundry session from 11am-1pm on the same day as our 4-6pm session (the last Wednesday of each month.)  This earlier session is geared for seniors and those unable to come to the later one.  While we have some help from Los Osos Cares, additional volunteers are welcome. We would like to create a team of about 4 people. If you can help, please contact Maureen Titus at 805-441-7262 or naseema6@sbcglobal.net.   The Laundry Love initiative provides regular opportunities to help those struggling financially by paying their Laundromat expenses, extending friendship, and acknowledging and honoring the dignity of every human being.

EMAILS FROM ST BENEDICT’S –  A number of people have reported problems receiving the group emails sent out by the church.  They are getting caught in Spam filters.   We use a system called FreshVine to send the Ben Weekly, our newsletter, important announcements, and other messages.  The sender is usually listed as no-reply@freshvine.co  Please be sure to list that address in your address book so that it will be recognized as a trusted source.

RECTOR’S DISCRETIONARY FUND – On the last Sunday of each month, like today, the loose cash in the plate offering is designated to the RDF, to help those in the parish or the wider community in need of emergency assistance.  You may also contribute by check anytime to St. Ben’s with “RDF” in the memo line.  Thank you for your generosity.

TUESDAY NIGHT VESPERS – Consider joining us for our indoor Vesper service at the church on Tuesdays at 5:30pm.  People are still required to wear masks and observe proper social distancing.  There won’t be a potluck following the service, but people are encouraged to bring their own snacks and stay to socialize if they wish.

VIRTUAL COFFEE HOUR – With our return to in-person services there is opportunity for those present to stay and socialize together. Coffee is not served but people may bring their own thermos. For those watching at home, the Zoom room is still available between 11:30-12:30 on Sundays for informal no-host conversations.

DAILY PAUSINGS Join us for Pausings – a few minutes of reflection with Caro+ posted every day at about 7pm on St. Benedict’s Facebook page.  These few minutes of poetry, psalms, and prayers are a great way to end your day, or access anytime.

BIDDING BOOK PRAYERS   If you’d like to request prayers for someone to have their names read out during the worship services on Sunday, please submit their names to stefshuman@sbcglobal.net during the week.

PERSONAL PRAYER   A member of the Healing Prayer Ministry team is available each week to pray with you for special concerns.  If you’d like this prayer support this week, contact Louisa Beeler at (805) 543-2898. If no answer, please leave a message and your call will be returned.

DONATIONS  We are grateful for God’s financial providence and blessing. Thank you for making your offerings by mail to our PO Box, or on-line at: https://www.StBensLosOsos.org/support-us/ Thank you!

ST BENEDICT’S CONNECTIONS Please do not hesitate to reach out to each other to stay in contact, and feel free to call Caro+ at 805-544-2895 caro@stbenslososos.org She loves to hear from you. In an emergency, texts are best.

Laughing with the Trinity

Do you want to know what goes on in the core of the Trinity?
I will tell you.

In the core of the Trinity
the Father laughs
and gives birth to the Son.
The Son laughs back at the Father
and gives birth to the Spirit.
The whole Trinity laughs
and gives birth to us.

– Meister Eckhart, German theologian, philosopher and mystic (1260-1327)

Be well, be safe, and stay in touch.
