HOLLISTER INSTITUTE: ADVENT STUDY starts Tuesday December 1, 10:15 This year we will be preparing for Advent together by using a study guide prepared by Amy-Jill Levine. In Light of the World: A Beginner’s Guide to Advent, Jewish biblical scholar Levine explores the biblical texts surrounding the story of the birth of Jesus. The study will be on Tuesday mornings at 10:15 on Zoom, beginning December 1st. Materials include a video which we will watch together, and a participant’s book which you will want to purchase.  Contact Caro+ to order a copy of the book.    Some of you have experienced Levine’s work before but if you have not, you can get a feel for her style and the study material by watching the video for the first session, available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zUjI-08FhI

PEOPLE’S KITCHEN – Dec 5 It will be our turn to provide lunch at 40 Prado for People’s Kitchen on Saturday, December 5th.  Please contact Pat Henry at 661-340-2291 if you can provide food.

ABUNDANCE SHOP HOURS Hours of operation at the Abundance Shop, St. Benedict’s thrift store on 9th Street, are 11am-3pm Tuesday through Saturday.   Donations of items to sell are only accepted between 11 and 2 Tuesday through Thursday. New volunteers are always welcome!

NOMINATIONS FOR PARISH COUNCIL and DELEGATES TO CONVENTION St. Ben’s Nominating Committee is seeking people to serve on the Parish Council (three 3-year terms and one 1-year term) and as Delegates to Diocesan Convention (3 delegates and 1 alternate).  If you are interested in serving, or learning more about what it would mean, please speak to Michael Lucas, Lorienne Schwenk, or Diana Hammerlund.

BUDGET PLANNING for 2021: Our Budget Committee will be making financial projections for St. Benedict’s in 2021 based in part on what we have been told we can expect as pledge income.  Please consider thoughtfully your level of financial support of St. Benedict’s in the coming year.  Pledges may be made online at https://forms.gle/4CjhKdNoKTFag4QV7  or written pledge cards may be returned by mail, or you may simply email your pledge info to our treasurer, Lisa Gonzalez.   Please indicate whether your pledge figure is a weekly, monthly, or annual pledge.  Thank You!

KEY BOX CHANGE The combination to our wall-mounted key box has been changed as a security precaution. If you have reason to need this number, please speak with wardens Stef Shuman or Jane Wu.

OFFICE STAFF CHANGE: We say goodbye to Stephanie Olsen, who has been our church administrative assistant for the past ten months and has recently resigned.  She will continue to be parish administrator at St. Stephen’s in SLO. And we say hello to Jay Matthew, who will be working as both administrative assistant and Sunday tech person.  He will mostly be working from home.

Personal Prayer – A member of the Healing Prayer Ministry team is available each week to pray with you for special concerns.  If you’d like this prayer support this week, contact Louisa Beeler at 805-543-2898.  If no answer, please leave a message and your call will be returned.
