Seeking Church Musician

POSITION AVAILABLE: CHURCH MUSICIAN

The person selected will help St. Benedict’s fulfill its vision of creating a joyful, dynamic worship experience, supported and enriched by a diverse repertoire of music. St. Benedict’s considers its music program to be a vital ministry.

The ideal candidate will be able to lead the music program by playing piano and organ at the main Sunday service, directing the choir, and encouraging participation by congregational musicians. We are also interested in hearing from candidates who can play on Sundays but do not yet have skills in choir direction.

Although the ideal candidate will have familiarity with liturgical worship, musical skills are more important as the liturgical practices can be learned.

Ideal candidate qualities and background:

  • Talented organist and pianist
  • Range of experience with musical styles and genres
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn and lead new styles
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Rector and other music leaders and musicians
  • Experience introducing congregations to new musical styles
  • Experience with choral conducting  
  • Ability to recruit and nurture choir members
  • Familiarity with Episcopal/liturgical worship

Key points:

  • Experienced Adult Choir (currently 8-12 members)
  • 2 manual organ
  • One Sunday morning service at 10:30 a.m., plus additional services at Easter and Christmas
  • Weekly choir rehearsal, currently 12noon on Sundays, could be Weds or Thurs evening
  • Intimate, in-the-round worship space
  • Part-time position (5-8 hours/wk.)
