Requesting Prayer at St. Benedict’s

Bidding Book

If you have prayer requests to be read aloud at Sunday morning services, please get them to Stef at stefshuman@sbcglobal.net or text her at 1-805-534-3622 by Friday.   Names will not be carried week-to-week, so if they are to be repeated, please send them again.

Facebook Comments

During the 1030 service there is an opportunity for Facebook viewers to type in names for prayers; however, due to delays or technical issues, the service ministers may not see them to read them in the service.  But other parishioners can see them and pray for your requests.

Intercessory Prayer Group

Ongoing prayer requests may be sent to our Intercessory Prayer group at prayers@stbenslososos.org  You may be as specific as you wish about what the prayer need is.  All requests are treated confidentially.  Keep in touch with this group for updates when the situation changes.

Healing Prayers

If you’d like someone to pray with you by phone, contact the healing prayer minister of the week, whose name and phone number is listed in each week’s Benediction Weekly email.

If you would like someone from the healing team to pray with you by phone, Lisa Gonzalez at (805) 544 – 2895

Season of Creation

Once every year, during the four Sundays of September that precede St Francis of Assisi Day (4 October), we join with churches around the world in celebrating a Season of Creation. This is an opportunity to bring the celebration of Earth fully into the orbit of Christian worship as a natural and integral part of the church year. During the Season of Creation, we rejoice in the good gift of creation and reflect on how we care for it.

St. Benedict’s will be celebrating the Season of Creation with special themed liturgies and sermons at the 10:30 service

September   6 – God, the Source and Destiny of the Cosmos

September 13 – God of Order and Dynamic Change

September 20 – The Justice of God and the Dignity of All Creation

September 27 – The Kinship and Unity of All Creation in Christ

Then in October, we will honor St. Francis of Assisi:

October 5 – St. Francis Day Observed

Changes to Cloister Groups

New cloister groups will start September 1st. Emails have been sent out telling everyone of their group assignment.  If you have not received this information or if you’ve not been in a cloister group yet and would like to join, please speak with Stef Shuman.

“I’m pleased that so many of you have been actively engaging with our cloister groups.  After chatting with our leaders, some leaders need to “retire” from leading their groups.  Also, several of our members have asked to lead cloister groups.  The leaders and I thought this seems like a good time to mix up the groups a bit so that we all have a chance to be in fellowship with other members of our parish.  Of course, that doesn’t mean you cannot stay in contact with your former cloister members as well, and I encourage you to do so!” Caro+

Roman Adventures

A new Hollister Institute group will take on the study of Paul’s Letter to the Romans beginning this Thursday at 11am.

Considered the most challenging – and yet most brilliant – of Paul’s writings, Romans has had an enormous impact on the development of Christian doctrine and theology and indeed the history of Christianity.  Reading Romans brought about the conversion of St. Augustine in the 4th century,  influenced Martin Luther’s Protestant Reformation in the 14th century, and, in the 18th century became the turning point of John Wesley’s life.  Find out why.  Join us for this discussion group Thursdays in the Zoom Room. Led by Rev. Caro+

Take Personal Action to Reduce Greenhouse Gases

The Episcopal Church has a major initiative for all dioceses, parishes, and parishioners to take concrete climate actions and track their results. You can find it at www.sustainislandhome.org.  There you will find that St. Benedict’s currently has 12 households participating with 37 actions already taken by participants, 15 new actions taken, and 2,367 kwh saved as a result. Please join in and add your actions to be good stewards of the planet.

Creation Care Webinars from our Diocese

Each of us can make a difference by being good stewards of creation through easy-to-do actions. St. Benedict’s Earthcare Committee recommends your participation in the upcoming Zoom meetings offered by St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church (Mountain View) Creation Care Task Force. We hope you will join us in taking advantage of the invitation to join these free sessions at 7:00-8:30 p.m. on the designated dates:
